Culture School @ Zappos

Pretty cool development from Zappos. My favorite thing about Zappos is how they exude joy. Yeah, their service rocks, but you get a sense their people really do like their work. Love that they’re evangelizing a management philosophy I hope one day will be conventional.

Trust Your Team, You’ll Win

Anyone watch Top Chef Masters on Bravo? So I’m a little behind as the series concluded last month, but thanks to Tivo I’ve just finished watching. I love food, cooking, learning from experts and follow the great-chef world, so this show was an instant fav. The gist is for six weeks four renowned chefs competed [...]

Wise Words

Last week my Dad received the top award from his professional association, the IABTI. My sister and I flew down to Palm Springs for the awards banquet. The conference was attended by 650 law enforcement and military personnel, mostly men, all of whom share the same wardrobe preferences as our Dad. The ceremony was lovely. [...]

The Routine of Change

I used to have a boyfriend who sometimes got really cynical. One time, he told me a story about being served a chicken dinner. He went on and on about how the chicken sucked, even though he realized the person who served it to him (a friend) had gone through a lot to make him [...]

Truth, Transparency, Trust

Kristine and I drove to Tahoe on Sunday with her friend Corinne for a skiing/boarding day trip. The weather got nasty, but we felt pretty secure navigating snow and ice in my Audi Q7  (super car!). Since the mountain drive was slow but steady, we had lots of morning car time to talk about this [...]

It’s Called *Social* Media

04.05.09 Posted in New Work World by

The New York Times Magazine had a piece on Facebook this weekend. Writer Peggy Orenstein was worried that “growing up on Facebook” would restrict the younger generations’ ability to morph throughout their lives the way she did growing up, leaving one persona behind for another as she grew and changed. And I just saw this [...]

Let’s All Be Gen-Y

Have you checked out BrazenCareerist.com? It’s a Gen-Y professional community generating very compelling dialogue. Makes me envious. The progressive opinions about transparency, fairness, balance and fulfillment are inspiring. The brazen careerists post about the kind of workplace we should all be working toward. I loved this post about ways Gen-Y will change the work world. [...]
